BEAUTY FOR ASHES
A MIDNITE ALBUM
TRIBUTE TO A MASTERPIECE
"...one of the best albums of
2014 and one of the best Midnite albums of all time..." -Achis' Reggae Blog
Midnite (now known as Akae Beka) is a roots reggae band out of St. Croix,
Virgin Islands formed by brothers Vaughn and Ron Benjamin.
Their 1997 debut, Unpolished ushered in their unique live-music sound coupled with brilliantly poetic lyrics, marking the beginning of
their prolific output.
Releasing over fifty projects over the next twenty years, MIDNITE has reshaped the geographies and textures of roots reggae music
and Rastafari philosophy.
Their 2013 album, Beauty for Ashes, is one of their last projects before
reforming into Akae Beka.
The album illuminates a spiritual, intellectual and cultural journey with lyrics
that deftly climb higher heights onto an eternal vantage point grounded in love.
Beauty for Ashes shows love to to be a practice,
or rather a repertoire of empathetic moves based in ideas of livity.
"A Healing" epitomizes these themes.
